Tracking Your Commute Costs

Fuel expenses often make up a significant portion of our monthly budgets. Whether you drive a car or ride a motorcycle, keeping track of exactly how much your daily commute is costing you over a full year can help you make better financial and lifestyle decisions (like carpooling or taking public transit).

How is Fuel Cost Calculated?

The calculation is quite straightforward. We first determine how much fuel you burn daily by dividing your total distance by your vehicle's mileage (fuel efficiency). Then, we multiply that by the current price of fuel.

Daily Cost = (Distance / Mileage) × Fuel Price

To project your monthly and yearly costs, we multiply your daily cost by the number of days you drive per week, mapped across 52 weeks in a year.

Example Calculation

Assume you drive a total of 30 km every day for work. Your car gives a mileage of 15 km/l, and petrol costs ₹100 per liter. You commute 5 days a week.
